Coffee Break

So one of my friends works for Peete's Corporate and I asked her for advice on how to brew coffee in my home machine. Here is what she had to say:

To ensure the freshest, best-tasting cup, we recommend buying coffee in small quantities frequently (not more than you can drink in 1-2 weeks), storing coffee in an airtight container, grinding coffee beans just before you brew, and drinking coffee within 30 minutes of brewing. Yeah like thats gonna happen .....

What are the most important things to know about brewing coffee?
1. Use enough coffee (2 Tbsp. ground coffee per 6 oz. of water).
2. Start with freshly drawn, filtered water that has sat for 30 seconds after boiling.
3. Stir your carafe of brewed coffee after all the liquid has passed through the filter, to homogenize the flavors.
4. Don't cook your coffee on a hot plate; put it in a thermos to keep it hot.

Happy Brewing!

Is it Oct. 3rd yet?!?!

Thu, Aug. 3rd, 2006, 06:05 pm

Ok... so I've been listening to the LeakyMug podcast from the Harry Potter convention in Vegas last week, and the panel discussion... yada yada yada....and someone used the term Fawkes block .... so effng funny... maybe even more funny than the term A.K.'ed (as in Adava Kedavera'ed)

If you're interested, it was used to describe how Dumbledore's pheonix, Fawkes, appeared in the belly of the ministry to block Voldie's Avada Kedavera aimed at Dumbledore... get it... a Fawkes block?

Anyways.... yeah, that was the only purpose of this post.

Oh, and there was an article in the ELLE I was reading while waiting at the hair salon today proclaiming "Marrying down: why younger, less-successfull men make better husbands."

Okie Dokie.

I want to live in a city with no friends and family,
I want to look out the window of my color TV.
I want to remember to remember to forget you forgot me,
I want to look out the window of my color TV.

-Different Cities, Modest Mouse, The Moon and Antartica

It's been almost 5 years, and those words are still present in my life. Must do something about that.

Speaking of Modest Mouse..... the band Sun Kil Moon did a whole album of Modest Mouse covers entitled Tiny Cities and it is fantastic... it's like Modest Mouse for grown ups. Its a bit "softer" I guess but every once in a while there is a definate "twang" reminiscent of MM, and it just sounds like heaven.

Notebook Shmotebook

Ok, so after 4 months of avoiding its white paper sleeve as it sat atop my DVD player.... I finally put in the "The Notebook." (Why 4 months you ask? I was never really in the mood for a sappy love story... thats what I have LoVe fanfiction for, right? But I couldn't bring myself to mail it back without at least watching it... and I do have the first season of House waiting in my queue).

Halfway into it (and I make the mistake of watching this on a Friday night after a busy [3 day]week of work with a bottle of Smoking Loon [birds, I know, how ironic] Sauvingon Blanc) I am thinking (besides that I like this chubby version of RMcA) who the hell watches this movie on purpose? Why would someone consciously want to put themselves through this? Who says, "Oh, I think I feel like a good, solid cry, I must put in the notebook!"

As the plot predictably unfolds and the old couple reunites, my forehead is pounding from my attempts to hold back tears. Seriously, what good comes from crying this much, and why would you want to make a movie about it? I remove the offending DVD, slip it into it's sleeve and seal it in it's return envelope.

I awake at 4 am... heart pounding from an intense Allie/Noah dream (I'm a little confused as to what JfDoh was doing there, but I get past that soon enough). My head is also still pounding (but from the wine or the crying I'm not sure). I can't get back to sleep. I just see Ryan Fucking Gosling's face (scruffy and clean shaven at the same time, if you can imagine that. Oh, I know you can). I grab the advil and take a few sips of water and find a cold cloth to rest on my head, (because Fuck, it really hurts). Eventually I must fade off into sleep....

15 hours later I am trolling through online communities looking for Notebook fanfiction.

God help me.

Ask (nicely) and you shall receive....

One of my favorite authors has written a story for me over at fanfiction.net! Its a Veronica Mars "what if" story set the morning after the alterna-prom, and its my first "by request" fic!

What if Kendall had not been there that morning at the Grand?

I remember, I remeber when I lost my mind,
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions have an echo . . . . in so much space.

Grey's Finale

I love this show. Seriously. It's not afraid to be what it really is.... You say we're nothing but a high school melodrama? Fine. Then we will have a PROM.
I love the fact that there is no true baddie, everyone has, dark and light moments, "gray" areas, if you will. But every single character has a driving force to do what they see is right. I think I questioned the actions of EVERY single character tonight (ok, maybe not McVettie), and by questioned, I mean shouted at them by name to my TV.
And, I am completely fine with how it ended. I was so over Shepard the latter half of this season, especially two episodes ago, and now I even see his pain. And I don't want Mere to use Finn....I am so glad she stopped. And it wouln't be a melodrama if they didn't end it there.
Alex comforting Izzie. Yes. George (God how I love this new George) apologizing to Mere, philosophising with the Cheif, and calming Calli's insecurities. Mere and the Cheif... WOW. Talk about changing the subject. Cristina, Cristina.... God, you are my favorite, sweetie.... its OK to cry, you knw, once in a while. *hug*
While I'm glad that Denny survued the surgery, and Dr. McBitchie did all she could to save him, I always knew it wouldn't work out for him and Izzie. I may be in the minority here, but I loved this storyline, yes even psyco Izzie from last night, loved her acceptance of his proposal "It's my turn...", loved her dress.... I just love KH *please don't shoot me*
Another Veronica Mars castmember tonight!! Tessa Thompson (Camille) is 2 for 2 when it comes to getting laid at prom this season. Just saying.

Veronica Mars finale

SQUEE! I can not stop watching this episode! Every time I rewind back to the dream, to watch one last time I end up rewatching most of the ep!
Initially I thought it was rushed. The performances were amazing, but way to much was happening to process, and I really wasn't digging it. The last 5 minutes blew me away, so I started again, and like I said, couldn't stop re-watching.

I wasn't sure how Logan knew the text was from V (it said NO NAME), or how she was able to type such a long message, but I'm pretty sure she forwarded Mac's/Cassidy's text..... maybe thats why the number was unrecognizable. Plus, it was the exact same message.

So, what was in the briefcase? Proof Aaron planted evidence? Kendall's newly aquired $$$? Marcelus Wallace's soul?? I'm kinda bummed Kendall didn't get her dues.... but was actually pleased that Cassidy's loss was her gain. And, hey, at least she dind't sleep with Duncan (as far as the clamydia angle goes)......and speaking of D.K..... I sooo missed him and loved every scene he was in. I literally pumped both my fists in the air high above my head when he was on the other end of CW's phone. Heh. Clarance Fucking Wiedman, Yes!!! And, "It's a done deal" shout out to the fans???

"Ah young love." -Logan in 2.01 -Kendall in 2.22. Nice symmetry there. Other small tidbits..... In the lobby of the Grand, Aaron asks Logan "How are the suites?" just as Logan grabs a handfull of "sweets" from the dish on the counter. Nice. Episode 1.22, Leave it to Beaver. Episode 2.22, Not Pictured: Cassidy Casablancas. Very interesting.
The dream was amazing... I only ever see "Lilly lives" scenarios ending with Lilly being a major bitch, so it was nice to see RT take a different side. A bit creepy that she was at the fountain, creepy in that awesome way. I can't help but wonder, was V better off without her? And of course I loved that she was with Logan, even in her subconcious.

So excited for Season 3.... for the Love of ROB!
